The debut footage showcases Matt Damon portraying Odysseus. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland playing the son and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. In a poignant moment, the character pleads with Odysseus to promise his safe homecoming, to which he respond by asking what happens if he cannot. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock Odysseus and his crew steal during their arduous journey.
Adapted from a foundational pillar of Western literature, The Odyssey chronicles the epic journey undertaken by the famed ruler. After his triumph at Troy, as told within the companion epic, the king faces a long and perilous return to his homeland.
Legendary Obstacles and a Star-Studded Lineup
Along his path, the hero encounters countless challenges and legendary creatures. This roster features the enchantress Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Despite these trials, Odysseus vows to do whatever it takes to get back to his wife and son on his home island.
This film's ensemble is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Story Repeatedly Told
The classic poem has inspired numerous adaptations over the years. Examples include contemporary versions to a 1999 ballet. There has even been adapted into a musical called Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a nine-album collection.
