It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a challenging time because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and a priceless quality in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"A chance to take the field and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the belief to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing through the pain.

However although she later admitted those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
